As information continues to come in please use these resources from your State and Federal Governments for the information you and your family need to know. Not all states are affected in the same way regarding COVID-19 (Novel Coronavirus). To keep you and your family healthy, please adhere to the guidelines below.
Unemployment benefits are available to individuals who are unemployed through no fault of their own. If an employer must shut down operations and no work is available, individuals may be eligible for unemployment benefits.
OR
If someone was unemployed due to caring for their sick child (Must report medical documents)
OR
Claimants who are working reduced hours may be eligible and must report their gross wages at the time they are earned, not paid.
If an employee decides to self-quarantine himself, that employee is not eligible.
OR
If an employee is ill, they are ineligible for unemployment
Your actions or decisions cannot cause your separation from work. Workers who are laid off or their work location moves far away are likely to receive benefits. Generally, those who are dismissed or quit work won’t qualify.
OR
You must be physically and mentally able to work when you file your claim. You must also be available to accept an offer of suitable employment. “Suitable employment” is a job you’re trained to do at a salary similar to one you’ve earned before. The longer you remain unemployed, you may be expected to accept work that isn’t so “suitable.”
OR
You must have earned sufficient wages over a 12-month period called the base period. The base period is the first four of the last five quarters prior to your filing a claim.
If an employer has to shut down operations, you are eligible for unemployment benefits
OR
If an employer lays off employees due to the Coronavirus, those employees are eligible for unemployment benefits
OR
If an employee contracts Coronavirus, that employee is ineligible for unemployment.
Worker has less hours available due to business slow down or lack of demand
OR
A person who is out of work because employer voluntarily closed
(Eligible for Earned Sick Leave)
Worker was unable to work because of school or daycare closed for a public health reason
OR
Worker is caring for a sick family member
OR
Worker is afraid of gathering in a group and refuses to go to work (self-distancing)
OR
Employer stays open in defiance of public health urging to close, and worker refuses to work
OR
Worker was exposed and quarantined. Business remains open
Your employer temporarily closes or goes out of business
OR
Your employer reduces your hours
OR
You have been told not to work because your employer feels you might get or spread Coronavirus
OR
You have been told to quarantine or self-isolate, or live/work in a county under government-recommended mitigation efforts
You must be unemployed through no fault of your own, as defined by Virginia law.
OR
You must have earned at least a minimum amount in wages before you were unemployed.
OR
You must be able and available to work, and you must be actively seeking employment.

You must have lost your job through no fault of your own. If you quit your job or were fired for ‘just cause’ you may not be eligible to collect unemployment in North Carolina. Every case is different, so if you lost your job — be sure to apply to unemployment in case you are indeed eligible to receive unemployment benefits.
As a precaution to the COVID-19 (Novel Coronavirus) pandemic and to protect the Fund participants and staff, Fund Office operations at the Carpenters Benefit Funds of Philadelphia, the Northeast Carpenters Funds in Edison, and the Carpenters Combined Funds in Pittsburgh will have limited staff, but still take calls and questions.
