West Grove, PA, September 26, 2024 – Today, the Eastern Atlantic States Regional Council of Carpenters (EAS Carpenters Union) is proud to announce their endorsement of Cristian Luna for State Representative of Pennsylvania’s 13th District. This endorsement recognizes Luna’s commitment to improving the lives of working-class families in the 13th District and all across the state of Pennsylvania.
“Supporting campaigns like Mr. Luna’s is critical to our union and our members as we need representatives that will advocate for the issues that affect our union and the thousands of families we represent,” said William C. Sproule, Executive Secretary-Treasurer of the Eastern Atlantic States Regional Council of Carpenters. “He understands the importance of protecting workers’ rights and improving infrastructure, as well as expanding new energy technologies that create great job opportunities for local workers. We are looking forward to advocating with him on these topics and fighting with him to combat issues like construction industry tax fraud and misclassification.”
The EAS Carpenters Union represents thousands of skilled carpenters across Pennsylvania, significantly contributing to the state’s infrastructure and development. Luna understand the challenges our dedicated union members face and knows what it takes to begin addressing them. It’s estimated that over two million construction workers in the United States are misclassified annually. This tax fraud and wage theft deprives employees of crucial protections like overtime pay, minimum wage, family and medical leave, and even safe working conditions. Such practices strip workers of their legal rights and divert approximately $8.4 billion each year from government resources, undermining public services and fair market competition. This issue affects not just the construction industry, but all sectors of the U.S. economy.
“I am thrilled to have the endorsement of the one of the one most respected unions in the country, the Eastern Atlantic States Regional Council of Carpenters,” said Luna. “Supporting our unions who fight for fair wages, proper working conditions, training and hours is a priority for me. EAS Carpenters Union sets the standard for ensuring their workers have the resources necessary to work efficiently and safely.”
